Notes from Underground Anthology

The Literary Lab presents Notes from Underground Anthology!

This is particularly exciting for me because it contains my first published work, entitled Four Words, and puts me in very good company with 23 other accomplished writers.

Four Words is a short story based upon a scene from one of my novels.

Thanks LitLab for this opportunity, and all the hard work that went into putting together such a beautiful publication!

Purchase a printed copy through CreateSpace or Amazon, or for your Kindle through Amazon.

  1. Believe it or not, you just eased my mind tremendously. I've written a few offshoots of my novel that seem to fit the "short story" mold, and part of me is like, "Can you just create new characters already? Geez Louise!"

I'm definitely going to check this out ... exciting stuff :-)

  3. I like the idea behind the book, appreciating the value of artistic freedom. Did you find that writing your contribution was in any way different from writing not yet accepted for publication? And congrats to you, raising my coffee cup in a toast ... Cheers :)

  4. KLo, I was a little freaked out when they chose me to participate in the anthology. I didn't know what to write, so I recycled a favorite scene, which was a real challenge--to make it a stand alone short. I'm pleased with the way it came out...

If you enjoy your characters, you're allowed to use them as often as you feel inspired to do so! They're like old friends--have fun with then as often as they come around! :)

  5. Glenn, You are such a loyal supporter (and contributor) to the arts! Thanks for always nudging me along :)

  6. Joanne, writing this piece was a whole lot different for me, knowing that I had complete freedom--to showcase my work or embarrass myself, without having to pass through the Gate Keepers,(who I've always imagined would help me present my best work)

Michelle, Domey and Scott where very supportive and helpful with edits, but never meddled. I learned a lot about refining my writing, but I'm still nervous about it...

  9. Anne--Likewise, I'm sure! :)
It's at times like these that I wish I had a Kindle (though I could read right from the proof PDF, but I want to snuggle up with this in hard-copy--can't do that with the computer, lol)

Michelle...I'm the one who should be thanking you for letting me in on this! :) The whole presentation is AWESOME!

  10. Congratulations on your first published work! I like the idea behind it -- pre-approved contributors who can do whatever they want with their pages -- as well as that all of their proceeds are going to charity. I'll be getting myself a copy, and I'm looking forward to reading your story.

  11. Thanks Nate :)
It is a great concept, and I think it took a fair amount of bravery on everyone's part--Okay, well, maybe just mine...(and here's something even scarier--people like you are actually going to read what I wrote...eeeeekkkk!)

  16. Craig, I have to admit it feels good to be amongst the published! I can't wait till you read it :)

Nevets, Thank you so much! You know I admire your writing, so that means a lot. I was tempted to read yours, but I think I need a glass of wine and hardcopy to get the best effect for a quiet psychological thriller! Though, that PDF is calling to me...

  17. Congratulations! I, too, am waiting for the hard copy to read everyone's contribution. Just can't get cozy with a PDF! It's very cool to be on Amazon, isn't it? I like your artsy blog.

  22. Oodles of congrats, Bridget! That's so exciting! I can't wait to get a copy. I just wish I could order it for my Sony e-reader - I'm getting so used to reading novels on it.

  24. Thanks, Laura!
I don't know anything about Sony e-readers or Kindles for that matter. I do so love gadgets, so I think someday I will, but for now I'm very happy with hardcopy!

Stina, I guess it is sort of a milestone...now, for the next...:D

  32. I did it, I did it! I purchased the anthology for my iPhone (through Kindle), and I'm already halfway through. Your excerpt was wonderful, by the way - as I recently blogged at LSP, I now want to read the full novel!

  33. Oh Laura! I'm so glad you like the anthology, and my story, of course. I think there is probably some way to have you read the novel from which the excerpt was taken...;)
