A Lovely Award

A while back—okay, it was all the way back in December—Liza, over at one of my favorite blogs, Middle Passages, gave me this Lovely Blog Award.

She did, in fact, give me permission to break the rules (which anyone who's ever awarded me with anything already knew I would).

I am posting it now, because it’s January and I was waiting for this particular time (when I’m feeling particularly glumpy) and knew I’d need a boost and a post that doesn’t require any creative output, (all of which is a testimony to my glumpiness and somewhat hard to reconcile with the lovliness of this award).

To be honest, if I had to pass the award on to 15, yes, 15 other bloggers, this would be completely overwhelming given the fact that it is January and I am in a slump. Therefore, I’m going to pass it on to 10 other bloggers whom I have awarded in my Unsupervised and at Large Blog (which actually feels like a better title for this blog lately—perhaps I ought to merge the two…)*

Thank you Liza for the award, and for sharing not only your comments here, but for all your delightful words over at Middle Passages.

* even if you're brave enough to go over there, I absolve you of any obligations incurred from either award, unless you want to dress up your blog...(remember there are no bloggy blah blah blah)

  1. I like glumpiness -- sums up my frame of mind right now, too (and my wife would probably say most of the time ;).

  2. Indeed!
The big question is: Did you dare venture over to the other blog?

  3. Congrats Bridget! Love visiting your art in your other blog and thanks! Glumpiness is good, did you find that one in the abridget dictionary?

  4. Glumpy--actually, I found it in the unabridget dictionay, between glumaceous and gluon.
Did you happen to listen to Start Wearing Purple?

  5. I'm feeling a little glumpy too. It sounds like you and I aren't the only ones. Congrats on the award.

  6. Susan, if January is glumpy--and it sure is--what will February be?
Rest assured, I'll come up with a word!

  7. I couldn't make out all the lyrics but that's a skippy little tune! And now, I can't get it out of head. I'm almost afraid to take my subliminal self shopping tomorrow :D

And yes, that would be the unabridget version.

  8. Ooh -- I was on my way out of work, but wanted to comment on glumpiness (b/c of its awesomeness) -- now I did. Thank you. PS - not sure about your process, but from everything I've seen, you've got the creative part down.

  9. Woke up feeling glumpy this morning and found this. You deserve the award Bridget, and thanks for brightening my day. Um, February-- "gluttery." I like the Gl sound.

  10. Bane,
Glad you felt brave enough to pick up your reward (technically you and the others were 'double-awarded', with all optional privileges).

    Liza,
I like gluttery. I need to start a list of February words...
Don’t be afraid, go ahead and skip over to my other blog...

  11. I'm grumpy, too, this month so it's nice to get a lovely award...

  12. And the best part is that you get to pick and choose what to do with one or both awards!

  13. I didn't even know you had another blog! Thanks for that! And congratulations on the award! :)

  14. Thank you, Davin.
My other blog is supposed to get me back into painting. I'm just about ready to shop out my novel, so, who knows?

  15. congrats on the award...Did you actually "self teach" yourself to do those paintings. I know you are sick of people saying to you, "amazing", well what is another word for amazing, and I will use it.. lol, glenn

  16. Glen, us artsy types never get tired of hearing ‘amazing,’ especially when in a slump. (We don’t always believe it, mind you).

I took art classes in high school, took basic design in college (which I barely passed, but did benefit from [I don’t do well in groups or when I have to do it]), but the bulk of learning water coloring was from instructional books and practice. My husband is an artist, (I consider him the real artist) which helped me refine my eye.

My biggest hindrance is the plague of perfectionism. Gets in the way of my painting lately, and right now its’ getting in the way of knowing if my novel is good enough to send off. A post for another day...
...sorry for rambling, Glen—but you opened the can! ;)

  17. no problem with the rambling. I literally took my magnifing glass from my desk to look at the bown of cherries. It is "amazing". we actually have a bowl similar to that. Looks like a dad-gum photograph.. lol

  18. I work from photographs--I just paint what I see. That probably makes me more of a technician than an artist, but in my defense, the photos are my own compositions.

  19. thnx for the comment on the "Kracked Kup Award" photo. My wife once told me I drink tea from a cracked cup,, ie the tea, to me, is more important than the vessel.. criptic. i dunno but you are welcome to it, right click copy and paste. No string no obligations, just "tea", lol

  20. I assume the award originated on your blog, so I think you need to come up with a premise. Perhaps a nice way of saying the recipient is--hmmm--a little 'cracked', in the nicest sort of way...

I like the concept--it's way better than my once-proposed deviance award ;)
